Long Lasting Bulletproof Base

Hello again cuties!

Nothing is worse than glamming yourself up for a special occasion to have a melted, shiny ass face after 2 hours. We’ve all been there honey…

I’ve put together some tips for you guys to help to keep a full face of makeup stay put for 7+ hours on a sunny day. This routine is perfect for any occasion where you want a full coverage look. This method is geared towards a combination/oilier skin type so if you’re on the drier side adjust the method slightly to fit your needs.

Sooooo let’s get to it

Prep

First off, I start my makeup with a freshly washed and moisturised face (NOTE:  for oily/combo skin don’t use a moisturiser that’s too thick or creamy. Opt for a gel based moisturiser instead, I use Clinique Moisture Surge)

Some people see this as a big no no but I don’t use primers if I need my makeup to last. Sounds stupid right? I feel as though primers create a slippy layer (esp the silicone based ones) between your makeup and skin. On myself, I’ve found primers to be pretty useless and my foundation to be less long lasting.

Concealer

I then conceal any blemishes and scars with a heavy duty, high coverage concealer such as MAC pro longwear (NC35) with a small brush blended over with an ever so slightly damp beauty blender.

Foundation

Estée Lauder Double wear is the plug. This product is a make or break when it comes to a long lasting base. This stuff doesn’t budge however hard you try. I pop this on in the shade Cashew (3W2) in thin layers to build up the coverage where necessary with a stippling brush, less is more! Again, be sure to go over each layer with a damp beauty blender.

Setting

Powder is your best friend when it comes to a long lasting look. To set the foundation in place, I press in MAC studio fix powder in C40 with a flat topped dense brush everywhere bar under my eyes. Be sure to press rather than swipe, this is gonna hold the foundation in place as well as beef up the coverage.

For under the eyes, Ben Nye Banana Powder, Revolution Banana Powder or any finely milled setting powder is the way to go. These powders won’t cake up underneath your eyes leaving the area flawless and smooth.

Definition and Blush

Proceed with your fave method to sculpt cheekbones sharp enough to cut a bitch. I use the NYX Wonder Stick in Dark and their powder contour palette. And add some blush if you wish.

Highlight

Your face is probably looking as dry as Gandhi’s flip flop at this point but we’ll fix it! My fave highlight combo at the moment is the Laura Geller Baked Gelato Swirl Highlighter in Peach Glow applied to the apples of the cheeks with my fingers. Gilded Honey on the tops of the cheekbones, again with my fingers. A quick spritz of a setting spray to seal in the first layer. I then go in with Becca Champagne Pop right on the tops of my cheekbones with a fan brush. This method gives such a pretty gradient effect and all over glow without the greasy, overly glittery look. Spritz some more setting spray over the cheeks.

Setting Spray

The last step is to make sure you set your whole face with a heavy duty setting spray such as the UD All Nighter Spray. Be careful to avoid the T-Zone as these areas will become less matte as the hours go by, any moisture in these areas is going to make you shinier faster. Add a little bit of highlight if you feel too flat.

And viola!

I’ve used this method numerous times for weddings and parties where I’ve needed to stay looking flawless without the high maintenance.

I hope you’ve found this useful!
